I furtled .......!!
« on: May 28, 2010, 22:58 »
My early potato plants looked as though they were drooping this afternoon but soil was still moist but not wet, so I furtled ........!!! I have found some lovely little egg sized potatoes and some a bit smaller, so I have retrieved half a dozen or so, and tucked everything else back in bed and am hoping that they will be well and truly ready by next weekend. They are in a plastic bag type container and the bottom looks very bumpy and bulgy so I am hoping that the bulges are all potatoes.

Haven't cooked them yet, but will do tomorrow. They are beautiful, white and unblemished. Feeling very proud - my first potatoes are making up big time for my miniature tomato plants!  :tongue2:

I furtled as well and couldn't resist the temptation to pick a few for tea.

Got a couple of pounds of 'epicure' which were much tastier than the Jersey Royals we got from the supermarket earlier this week.

These were in a container and planted in the unheated greenhouse in March and this is the earliest I've had new tatties.

When did you plant yours? I put mine in on 27th March and according to the instructions they should be harvested 10 weeks later (7th June) so I am a week early. However, the instructions also said that they (Swift) are best eaten small! (Good!)  :D

You're all making me jealous....I love fresh new potatoes and mine are not ready yet. Supermarket ones very quickly lose that wonderful fresh flavour. :(

Planted mine in sacks beginning of march but kept inside until April. Have had 3 meals of them so far and they are lovely - Lady Chrystl.
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it....

You won't catch me furtling just yet! Waiting for this rain to plump things up a bit first.

I couldn't furtle today as my gander bag is leaking. However when the grunge comes upon me, spritely and with style, I shall grommet.
