Liquid Fertiliser
« on: May 25, 2010, 19:38 »
I don't have Comfrey and dont have room to put any so I was looking for an alternative. I gathered a bag of fresh sheep manure from the field behind the house and put it into a Poundstretchers fishermans keep net I have now dangled this into a water butt and have also tied up a large bundle of nettles and put them into the same water butt.
Will this make a good fertiliser for my tomatoes and peppers or will I need to add something else.
You will never find time for anything. If you want time you must make it.

I understand it's fine for everything. You dilute it to the colour of weak tea. It will stink to high heaven so you could put a lid on it  :)

Comfrey leaves are excellent though and it's a shame you've not got room for one. The Bocking 14's are well behaved plants

I got some bocking 14 tubers off Molusc, BIG THANKYOU by the way if you're reading  ;)

They're about 4 inches tall at the moment, so I can't wait to try mine as a fertilizer.

Not really the same thing, sheep manure is high in N but average in P & K.
Comfrey is very high in K and low in N & P.

I think so.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I have only got a half plot - all they could offer at the time, but I have a square 4 feet given over to Comfrey and that is enough for a plot which is 10 x 20 square growing feet.

You don't need much room for Comfrey and the returns are amazing. Try burying a few Comfrey roots around the sides of your compost bin; even almost under the sides and they will grow out from the bin's bottom edge, using no room at all.

I say give it a go - you can always find room for Comfrey!

Did my first comfrey cut of the year today and it's in a bin with a bit of water. I've got 7 plants in an area 10x4' by the compost bins and that usually does the tomatoes/courgettes. Haven't any more room which is a shame as I've doubled tomato production......Wilco's have an offer on Tomorite....

put your nettles in an onion bag and leave in a water butt , 3-4 weeks later youll have some great fertilizer , as long as it looks like weak tea you should be fine
