outdoor tomato question
« on: May 19, 2010, 19:17 »
is it still too cold to leave my outdoor bush tomato's to fend for them selfs?
they are in the ground but still in a cold frame, i have been lifting the top off during the day for a week now and leaving it just propped up at night for last few days.
dare i risk removing it altogether?

Well that throws my theory out of the window, i always advocated planting in June as 100% safe.
Maybe not so then.
Frosts in June, it's supposed to be summer by then.  :(

Safe ?   Nature is always out to get the plants even if it means sending a summer hailstorm to beat them to pieces.
You just have to laugh and carry on trying. :)

I can remember a frost in July on the low lying fens, I think about 20 years ago. It touched the tops of french beans and blackened young nettle growth in the dikes.

Mine went out on Wednesday.  I think it was a bit early but I didn't have a say in the matter.  I'll keep watching the skies ( and the Met office guessing site) for a bit.

The second I stop worrying about frost I start worrying about blight!  I grow far too may plants to grow in a green house.
