incubation problem
« on: May 16, 2010, 06:51 »
Hi, i need some help it is day 20 today and nothing has happened, i have a brinsea 40 and have followed the chart for humity and temperature, we candled the chicks on day 18 and everything looked ok, removed the holders increased the humidty and then the incubator seems not to be able to hold the temperature it was 39 when i went in this morning i have tried to lower it but it doesnt want to respond, the inside laminate has started to come away so i am not sure if this has caused the problem. i am not too worried about the incubator as we brought it 3 weeks ago so should be able to get a exchange. but i am really worried about the chicks, any help would be great.

hatch day isn't due until day 21 and often days 22 and 23 so they may be ok. I can't help about humidity though sorry.
Just going to pop this over to the hen house  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

As Joyfull says hatch day can be as late as day 23, so be patient, easier said that done i know, as far as the high temp if it is a still air one then it can run a bit higher, at39.4 if forced air they tend to run a bit cooler at 37.7.
Put a couple of the eggs to your ear, you should be able to hear them cheeping and tapping.
Good luck let us know how you get on.
Dont count ya chickens till they hatch!!!!!

Just to update you we have had 28 chicks hatch out of 35 so not bad considering all the hassle we have had with the incubator. we have decided to go for another model so upgrading to the brinsea 190.
