losing the slug war
« on: May 15, 2010, 21:31 »
The * slugs are winning  :tongue2: I've given up and ordered Nemaslugs.
I don't use poison because of the the little man and the dogs and in case the dead slug then killed the birdies etc.
I have loads and loads of slug beer traps around the plot and they are killing about 30 slugs/snails every 2 days but the * are still winning.
I planted out some peas in paper pots (they had been accidentally hardened off when I forgot to bring them in during the week)
The next morning most had been munched. I have more sitting patiently in pots waiting for a solution. What can I do to protect them until the Nemaslugs I ordered have arrived and started to do their job.

I need to get parsnips in paperpots into the ground as the tap roots are coming out the bottom. What is going to munch them on me? There are loads of rabbits and pigeons on my plot. What can I do to protect them? If they get got I will cry.
Thanks.
This no poison thing is hard.

Slug hunting at night with a torch is worth a go. May also be worth laying some damp boards around that they'll use as refuges during the day. Every time you visit the plot, you can then flip the boards and squash any you find hiding away.
