This annual cold period is traditionally known as"Ice Saints" for good reason.

Our plots were hit hard. Lots of people got frosted potatoes and runners, even though fleeced up.  I lost all my greengages and gooseberries.......
The less time you have, the more becomes available.

Went to the plot yesterday.  My potatoes seem to have escaped more or less.  Some of the leaves tinged but most looking healthy so I think they will be OK (they were fleeced).

Quite a lot of people had put runners out, courgettes etc.  All of those not protected have been anihilated.  It's such a shame.    :(

Hopefully that's the last frost we'll get now.  Looking at Metcheck the next couple of weeks look good, so fingers crossed....

Lotty holder since Aug 09... I've FINALLY finished clearing it! On with the p.lanting  ....

Haven't lost anything on my plot but I lost a Phoenix Palm and 2 Canna lilies in my garden plus a few Fuchsias
It all depends what you put into the ground, to what you get out

My spuds had "just" started to come through and went to the site yesterday. A bit of damage to a few tips, but I think I should be ok. Loads of people put their spuds in 4-6 weeks before me, not a pretty sight!!

I totally forgot to put my greehouse heater on for the 2 worse nights "typical of me" and my chilli plants have lost a LOT of leaves. I am still hopefully they will be ok, just set back a couple of weeks.

Hopfully, this info. won’t be needed until next season.
I planted out, 9 Champion of England peas 04/04/2010 and 7 more 25/04/2010.    When we had warning of a cold snap, I covered them with several sheets of news paper, then wrapped them with fleece.   On the 15/05/2010, I removed the covering and they seem to be O.K.   I am using; Munty.s runner bean frame and they were sown in Richie’s paper pots.   The seed came from The Real Seed Co.

Hardcore, peas are hardy and don't need covering ;)
My peas were sown outside mid March, germinated and are growing nicely, without any covering at all..........there is no need to panic about everything when it is frosty, only the half hardy stuff  8)

I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Thank’s Mum.   I’m so much of a learner; I don’t know what questions to ask, so I’ll just go on experimenting.

Me too.... even with my dad's 80+ years of experience to call on and nearly 8 years of going it alone!

8 days ago I asked if frost nipped potatoes would be any good.  I'm pleased to say they are now fighting back and greening up nicely.
