snake gourd
« on: May 05, 2010, 16:32 »
I put 1 seed per 3 1/2 " pot and after germination I let them out in the greenshelf (new terminology) for the past 3-4 days. yesterday evening and this afternoon I felt the leaves are bit floppy. any general reason for this Or should i repot them in a larger pots? will post some piccies if possible.

Are these the seed leaves that are floppy?

Or the new proper leaves?

here you go. not a rocket science. It looks like other squash plants. I am scared it shouldnt go and die like cues..
The black one is actually floppy but the red one is drooping down because the leaf is heavy (I can feel it)

P.S.
The water/moist level is good.

Actually they don't look as bad as I thought they might from your description, Prakash  :D

(Those are proper leaves by the way - seed leaves are the ones that come out first when they germinate -- cotyledons is their name)

The red pot looks OK . Do the pots weigh the same in your hand?

yep they weigh almost similar. but the black one is what i am worried abt. the true leaves are not stiff or put this way "Tired a bit". I can feel it by touch comparing with other good one.

Sometimes leaves can partially collapse in response to highish heat. It is a defence thing. They then recover when in more amenable surroundings. Some of my aubergine plants did this.

I would wait and see how it is in the morning, as it may be fine.

Hope so  :D

you may be right. It happened yesterday evening when i forgot to open zip of the greenshelf for the day .
Probably I will mollycoddle them for a couple of days indoors and let them out.
Thanks sunshine

Sounds like the leaves have been losing water faster that the roots could take it up from the soil.... poor things is exhausted from all the effort

Glad to hear that Prakash!  :)

My tomato plants have been like that for a few days but have always recovered overnight.
Seems like the top growth sometimes outgrows the root's ability to supply them with water but it usually sorts itself out.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

forgot to move them from the windowsill for a week and they've romped up. out now to slow them a bit before they go to plot. the black pot is more vigorous than the red one
