Screen door for greenhouse
« on: April 30, 2010, 13:36 »
Is there such a thing as a mesh screen door for the greenhouse? I have trouble with birds getting into my greenhouse so daren't leave the doors open. I've put garden fleece over the window gaps which is a faff but would love to be able to safely leave the doors open

Thanks

I made one for my greenhouse.
Just used 1"x2" plained wood for the frame and the really fine plastic mesh stapled to it.
This just fits into the runner of the door frame i also made a smaller one for the roof light, again this just sits in the recess of the roof light.

perhaps I'll have to wait for a bee to get in and then fit the door  :D

Thanks for that information. I'm not brill at DIY being cack-handed so I wondered if there was an off-the-shelf thing  :D

Most toms and chillies (etc) are self fertile.
And i polinate the mellons by hand like i do my pumpkins and squashes.

Lidl sometime do flyscreens with velcro strips to fix.

I`ve got an old fireguard  i put in the doorway to keep cats out, a couple of pieces of weldmesh hung on cuphooks will do the trick and let the bees in and out.

Weldmesh! good thinking. I do need for bees to come and go.  Thanks!

I wonder if those horrible coloured ribbon door curtains would deter birds. They're dead cheap  :D

Fruit cage netting?  Will let the bees through, but flexible enough that if connected to the vents will "concertina" when they are closed - assuming your DIY skills are better than mine!
