Black & Tayberries
« on: July 04, 2006, 17:36 »
I planted 2 blackberry plants and a Tayberry plant in early spring this year, more as a deterent for intruders than anything else (although Tayberries are lovely, hadn't had them before).

The leaves have suddenly gone very yellow on some of the branches. In fact a branch has either ALL yellow leaves or is pretty much ok. I did put fish blood and bone down when I planted them. I haven't added anything since. Oh yes, I said they suddenly went yellow but not sure how sudden. 2 weeks perhaps. The ground around them (about 1 mtr away) is very dry and cracked. I had mulched around the bases and its moist in there.

Any thoughts?
first there is a mountain then there is no mountain then there is

yellowing leaves are they only at the bottom which could just be old age! or if they look veiny yellowy that is mineral defficancy i think magnessium or calcium, definalty keep them well watered as they aren't established yet.

Thanks. It is probably nutrient deficiency, I didn't know that they wouldn't be established yet. I haven't been looking after them much, I thought they'd just grow like weeds.

I'll get some epsum(sp?) salts down? and water well for the near future.

If you click on the link for the view from my allotment (below), the hills in the background on the right are where the tayberry was developed. The river on the left is, indeed, the Tay (Doh!)

Well they did a damn good job mellowmick. I don't know why they're not more popular.

Great view btw.
