Disappointing onions and garlic
« on: April 24, 2010, 11:21 »
In the autumn I put some red and white onions in along with garlic. I have just had a look at the and none of them have any growth :( no large bulbs at all. the garlic smells fine but there are no bulbs. So can anyone help? what did I do wrong? could it be the soil is not very good? thanks.

i also put some white and red onions in along with garlic in the autumn and likewise they are not very big at the moment but if i remember from the year before they all went mad in the summer so don't panic just yet they will be fine, i pulled  a garlic bulb up to check two weeks ago and their is nothing but the original clove there but don't forget they don't come up until October so a long way to go yet.

You need a little more patience. They won't be ready until June at the earliest. Shortly before they are ready they will fill out. Once the tops go over and start to die back they will be ready.
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.

I put my onions and garlic in in september, but my plot got a tad waterlogged over the winter, and I don't think that did them much good.  Most of them survived though and are still alive, so I have given them a good feed and will wait and see what happens.   That reminds me, I must get the hoe out and deal with the weeds.
