Sweetcorn .
« on: April 21, 2010, 11:26 »
I have planted some sweetcorn which came from last years crop.
The corn came through within 4 days and they are now about 4inches and are in the ground, I know this is early!

My problem is I have just found out the seed I used last year to grow these were F1 !
Will my corn be worth eating or should I start again?

Thanks

There is no way of knowing if your corn will be worth eating - it will not have the same characteristics of the parent plant.

I would start again there is plenty of time.

I only planted mine two days ago so your not late. Trillium estimated on another thread that there is only about a 3-4 weeks from sowing to having to put them into the ground. It is still very cold where I am so I will need a few weeks before it is warm enough to risk it.

I didnt even start chitting mine until the end of this month last yr. Really want to start mine now but will wait a week yet. Plenty of time still.
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

If they were mine I could not bear to throw them away. I would give them a try, or if you have little room give as many as you can a try and see how they develop. I wish I had thought of saving some of mine to sow.
