I have the 'bible' as many of you refer to it as (Vegetable & Herb Expert) but are there any other books you would recommend? I quite enjoy reading vegetable books, sad I know

Thanks
First year at growing veg, not too fussed about being organic, but if I can I will, be nice ;)

You could try 'The self-sufficient gardener' by John Seymour.

It's no longer in print, but you should be able to find a copy through e-bay/amazon/abebooks.

I love Bob Flowerdew's Organic Bible.  In fact I like all his books. It's not sad there's nothing nicer than reading gardening books, apart from gardening itself and surfing this website. :)

Carol Klein's book is good - her enthusiasm plus the clout of the RHS. Up to date varieties too. Hessayon is good, but the bit about garlic is a real cringemaker...

BTW I'll own up - it's my fault. The cr*p weather has happened because I planted some mangetout last weekend...
Growing salad leaves isn't rocket science.

My favourite books are Successful Organic Gardening by Geoff Hamilton and for info on managing an allotment and getting the most out of it I refer to How To Plant Your Allotment by Caroline Foley.

I have other books but I never use them, and of course this forum has a wealth of experience.
Try my best to be Organic but don't always make it

I,ve just bought a copy of "Food from your garden" brilliant book,
It shows you how to grow it, store it, preserve it, cook it, also a section on keeping chickens and bee keeping.
I used to work in a helium gas factory, but I walked out, no one talks to me like that.

RHS book 'Growing Vegetables'.. very clear advice, and Joy Larckcom's 'Grow Your Own Vegetables' ..everything covered in minute but readable detail. I;ve also got Arthur Hellyer's All Colour Gardening book..paid £2.45 in 1973 for it!!! Still good now.... :D
trying to be organic....

The above book (Readers Digest) is one of my favourites, along with:

The Complete Manual of Organic Gardening (Basil Caplin).

The Complete Book of Vegetables Herbs & Fruit (Biggs, MvVicar & Flowerdew)

and

The Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening (HYDRA).

But an old copy of the 'Vegetable Expert' is great to leave in the shed for reference.

What about going to your local library first, getting some books that been suggested and then if you find them good you can go and buy them, I have the allotment book by andy clevley, its not bad and he does give some good tips which the others dont give, but as said the library is good place.
