How long shall I keep my hen and chick enclosed
« on: April 15, 2010, 13:12 »
I must thank all for info sent so far - next question is - I have removed the hen and chick to a rabbit hutch with the run underneath, which has chicken wire on the bottom and hopefully is safe there. I have covered the run hole which goes down to the grass with a sheet of plastic for now. How long do I shut hen and chick in and can the chick get back up the run when it ventures out, it's quite steep. The chick is trotting around happy at the moment and I don't want it falling down the opening.

One lot of my chicks last year were hatched in a two tier coup, so every night I used to lift them all into the upper bit (including mum as she didn't want to leave her babies), it's not ideal but within a week they will be attempting to fly so will soon get the hang of it
Staffies are softer than you think.
