onions gone wrong

:(  :(  :(  helpmy onions stated to grow normaly then started to go all twisted and deformed in the leaves not just on my allotment but all off them with onions can anyone shed any light on whats wrong with them thanks  :(  :(  :(
in my 3rd year of allotment and still learning

Welcome Graham, as I said to someone earlier, sorry one of your first posts are about problems.

My book says ........
STEM & BULB EELWORM

Swollen, distored foliage indicates attack by this microscopic soil-living pest. Young plants are killed; older ones produce soft bulbs which cannot be stored.

Treatment - lift & burn infected plants.

Prevention - Do not grow onions, peas, beans or strawberries for several years on land affected by stem & bulb eelworm.

Of course, there may be another explanation.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
