Can anyone post pictures of the type of cover they use for their carrots and also what they use for peas.
For my carrots I use bamboo sticks about 2ft at different intervals then drape over some enviromesh and use clothes pegs to stop it from blowing away then bury the ends in the ground. Also for my peas this year I have got some chicken wire and threaded bamboo sticks through them and stuck them in the ground.
They both look a bit unsightly. :(

This is what I built on Sunday for my carrots. Enviromesh. I built the frame from 2cm x 3cm timber, very roughly!
I haven't yet sorted out how I'm going to protect my peas (or if I'm going to).   I've only ever grown Mange Tout before and I've never covered them. ..

Thanks PennyS. Do you keep that on all through the growing period?

Wow thanks Mumofstig for that link, It has all the answers to my questions. DD's peas are fantastic. It puts my little garden lotty to shame. But I will certainly be putting them in with less spacing between.

I think I will, it's the first year of using it!

I'm also using this arrangement on my onion sets while they get established.  Keep the birds off them!

I could never grow successful carrots because of the dreaded fly until I invested in a pack of the fine insect netting. I bought one pack of Agrilan (is that the right name) and a bundle of slate battens. I made 6 panels each 2'x5' with legs so that I could push them into the ground and surround a space 10'x5'. I held them together by using half in screws and twisting wire round them. I had enough mesh left over to make a lid which I stiffened with cross battens tied to the sides. I made these panels in 2005, pictured in 2007 partly dissembled, I've just had a bit of a rebuild but using the same mesh so it lasts well. I leave it in place from sowing until the next Spring, it seems to keep some frost off as I never dig them up for storage.
