Soft Shelled Eggs???
« on: April 02, 2010, 12:57 »
Help.  Am new to hen keeping, therefore every anomaly throws me into thinking,  "it's my fault"!!!  So, is it my fault that we've had a few soft shell eggs laid?

how old are your girls?
what are you feeding them on?
do they have access to oyster shell at all times?
Staffies are softer than you think.

Re soft shells:  took delivery of our 6 hens 28th January when they were approx. 18 weeks old.  They are feeding on layers pellets with added grit and oyster shell, an afternoon treat of corn & maize, plus plenty of greens and the occasional sultana treat.  (Oh yes, and yesterday they demolished a pomegranate!!)  Is that enough to go on?
