last Years Cabbage
« on: March 25, 2010, 16:14 »
I still have last years cabbage, Kale and sprouts that were planted last spring would you believe. They were very slow all last year until recently and now they are growing. Not sure now which is the cabbage or the sprouts but they are starting to get tall.

My question is: should I leave them to harvest or will they be no good this late ?

Basically, no. What those plants want to do now is go to seed, and when the weather warms up you'll see the seed heads sprout and the edible parts turn very woody. Unless you want the seed, pull them out and start fresh. If they didn't do well last year, check your soil, light and drainage for this year's plantings.

My curly kale is still in, is starting to look a little tall though so won't be much longer before it is gone.  Mind you the chickens are loving it!

My sprouts from last year are only just starting to grow tiny sprouts under the leaves. Should I wait and use them or are they no good ?
