getting more chickens change in the flock.
« on: February 24, 2010, 19:02 »
i currently have 5 hybrid chickens which i have had for about a year, 3 of the larger ones are going to join my friends flock and the other two small colubian black tails are going to join a flock of about 10 ,16 week old black rock chickens in about a months time.my questions is if i gave my friend the 3 big chickens now  would the other two be ok or should i wait to move them all at the same time.
the otere problem is the columbians and the black rocks are moving onto a field that i am renting to a new house, should i introduce them to the new place all together or let the 2 older birds get settled first. already in this field i have 6 wellsummer bantams in there own house.

If you put all the hens onto the site at once it may help with the introductions, rather than allowing two hens to establish a territory?
two daughters, nine hens, two goldfish, three cats ...

Thanks would the two be alright at home if i rehomed the other 3, and then left them in the garden till the black rocks arrive.

they will be fine but what are you going to do about quarantining the new birds?
Staffies are softer than you think.

ideally you need to keep them apart for a couple of weeks just in case of any infections  :(.

mine fought for a bit but then simmered down. best to get it over with in one go that way you won't get every chicken that fancies it piling onto one or two birds.
