Cream Crack-erd New Mum
« on: February 20, 2010, 18:48 »
Just sitting down at last. What a day! Roads were terrible after heavy snow and ice on Yorkshire Coast roads, we just held on for dear life! scary stuff.
Made it home after nearly 5hrs and collected our new chickens and hour later.
Having to choose 6 girls from a flock of 50-60 was tough going, so I waited to see
which ones came to me .Hubby and I delivered them into the new coop. For 15weeks they are bigger than I thought.
Things slightly back fired because Polly blocked off the main ladder route to the run untill 5mins to go before VSB pop hole closed! And then, Nightmare! they all came out. into the run. The door started closing and Molly got stuck 1/2 in and out. So I ended up with hubby and I scrambling around in the Cold to put them to bed manually. Hence the Cream Crackered part.
Does anyone think my garden lights may have attracted them out of the coop? If so, I will have to change timer.
Not good with photos on here but will see what we can do in future.
What events will 2mow bring?

they might be or it may be that the girls just didn't know where they was supposed to go. Is you auto pop hole on a timer or on a light sensor - if on a timer try setting it to close a little bit later  :)
So pleased you made it home ok and that you managed to get your girls and hopefully you should get loads of eggs from them when they start to lay  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.

It was probably the fact you were there and they thought there could be food about.
My hens go to bed 20 mins later if the back door to the kitchen is open, there could be food coming any minute, door shut and they have an early night. :)

I got my hens today too.  I too was expecting them to be smaller.  I'm actually looking forward to getting up early in the morning to let them out.
