Chipped Bark/Wood off of Council
« on: May 22, 2007, 18:55 »
I want to get a load (1 ton+) of chipped bark/wood to put on paths in my allotment. I have heard that some councils have an arrangement where they deliver this to you for free using their shredded green waste.

Does any one know if Cheshire County / Macclesfiled district council do this, and have a contact number if they do (I have phoned council without much luck as they do not seem to understand my request...)

Thanks for any help / advice, cheers, Simon

Can't help you there mate but there are plenty members in the Cheshire area who might be able to help.

Try asking local tree surgeons. We have one who regularly drops off chippings and logs for use by anyone on the site.

They may be happy to help as in some cases they have to pay to dispose of this type of waste.

Good tip Bridgend & welcome to the forum.  Why not take a moment to introduce yourself properly to the gang.  We have a Welcome Forum just for this.

Thanks for advice whiskey_golf and bridgend - much appreciated.

Whilst browsing for tree surgeons I came across an offer for free trees in Macclesfield borough council which may be of use to someone:

... but we get chipped bark delivered.  It's brilliant.

I'll ask the manager of our allotments who she talks to, just in case it's someone with the same job title across all councils.
