Blood In Duck Eggs
« on: January 24, 2010, 14:10 »
My Welsh Harlequin has now been laying for about 4 weeks, today when I cracked open 3 of the latest 6 eggs was blood in them, two were only a small blob but one had loads.

What does this mean?
Is the duck Ok?
Can these eggs be eaten?

Thanks in advance

Darren

hi there! i sometimes get blood spots in my hen eggs -its fairly common so probably normal for ducks too (i dont know anything about ducks though!) it can sometimes indicate that an egg has been fertilised but this might be an old wives tale as none of my girls have had a cockeresl with them! yesterday i had a big lump of girstle like substance in my poached egg which was quite off putting :tongue2: but im hoping its a one off! keep an eye on your duck's eggs that had a lot of blood but  hopefully it too was just a one off - the spots of blood i woulnt worry about. hope someone with duck experience will be along soon to help out, good luck, lucylou :)
