I have 30 sweetcorn plants (100% germination) ready to go in at the weekend......

a) I have grown them thus far in cell pots and have just found out that they dislike root disturbance...what is the best way of getting them out of the plastic pots without disturbance and does it matter that much???

b) whisky golf has posted about putting a cut off plastic bottle over them until a certain height to stop slugs getting them

How big a bottle??? and until what height???

My (2 litre) bottle idea was for small seedlings but you could just as easily cut the bottle to give a vertical cloche.  Needs holding down though.

You are looking for slug protection - I was looking for weather protection.

If your corn is hardened off, cut a 2litre bottle into 2 or 3 open-topped rings.  Push each ring into soil by at least an inch.

well I never knew slugs liked sweetcorn.. so after reading this I went to the lottie this morning before work to check mine out. The corn is about 12 in tall and was planted out at the weekend... to my horror slug city.. so slug pellets have been spread all over the place...
