We only have a couple of birds which we leave to roam around the garden, but  the local pigeons have found the feed tray and the hen house (which our birds seem too chicken to evict them from). Knowing the reputation of pigeons (perhaps unfounded) as "flying rats" should we be worried about the health of our birds in the contact they might have with them?

i would defenatly evict from the hen house as it will soon fill with pigeon dropings and become a health hazard them feeding from the same bowl is not to bad but again i would discourage it.
good luck

Welcome to the forums seton :D

It's not possible to isolate your chooks from all wild birds, but it is advisable to minimise it if you can. Diseases and worms can be transmitted in their droppings and the birds themselves may carry little passengers

hello seton, i've got some onion sets with the same name, are they ferrel pigeons, or racing birds, if they're racing birds, they're probably healthier than the hens, they're protected from every bird disease known to man :)  :)
