Girls being wormed = no treats... greens?
« on: November 08, 2009, 10:12 »
I'm in the process of worming the girlies, have been good and witheld 'treats' which is harder for me than it is for them.  :( Can I still give them their 'baby spinach' though as it's more of a necessesity because they do not have access to grass? I haven't noticed any worms in their poo yet.

No reason why they shouldn't have greens whilst worming Pc :)

Only reason to withhold treats is so they definitely get the wormer if it's mixed with their food :)

The dosage rate of Flubenvet, if that's what you are using, is based on them eating NOTHING else during the treatment so feeding anything will dilute the medication dose they get.  However if you've slightly overdosed (I usually allow 25% extra) to allow for them free ranging and you can be sure that one chicken isn't eating just the greens to the exclusion of the medicated feed it will probably be fine.  Don't give then more than half an ounce each per day and hand feed to prevent one chicken just eating all the spinach and therefore under dosing on the feed.

Thank you Hillfooter  :) I will be sure to add a little extra Flubenvet to compensate. They also grub around eating soil etc. so it will be for the best regarding that. They all dive on their spinach like mad things not leaving the bowl until it's gone so I expect all get an equal share.
