I've got a patch of heavy clay on my new plot and have thrown some sharp sand over it to break it up a bit. I had it lying around so thought I'd give it a go. I wouldn't use builder sand as it has lots of fine particles and clay in it.

Cats aren't  fussy, but the finer grades of silver sand are less aggressive on their paws.

Nick - what do you want to use it for? Use will determine type.

Sharp sand - much cheaper than horticultural sand.

I've used it to great effect over the last year.

I've also commented on this a couple of times so hopefully searching this site for sharp sand will bring up at least two threads.

Regards,
