i was told u get carrots seeds by keeping the carrot in the ground for 7 years is that true ... how do they get the seeds as always baffled me .

They flower second year and go to seed.

Speaking from a personal point of view, I wouldn't unless you're trying to save a rare variety.

You're tying up ground for 2 years and you get 1000's of seeds in a packet from Wilco's..

Saving carrot seed is a right faff. Google it or look on the real seeds website; it has to be isolated and you have to grow quite a few seed heads to make it worth while and a wide enough gene pool to keep it viable.
