My sweetcorn is still outside and growing. I live in the Northwest of England. Is it too early to harvest ? Before you ask me to do the peeling back the leaves thing and pressing into corn I won't. The reason is because I made a mess of a cobb the last time I did it and the thing shriveled and pests got in.

Any other way of telling ?

I live in the north west too but further up on the west coast. I have just harvested mine a week ago after that nice spell of sunshine as I hoped it would finish the ripening and add even more sweetness. We tried one and oh boy!!!  so I would go ahead as I don't think waiting any longer will help the cobs' development any more now.

I am in macclesfield and harvested half mine a week ago, the squirrals arrived the next day and harvested the rest. If the tassles are really brown it is unlikely to be too unripe.
