Out of Sorts Chook! HELP PLZ!
« on: September 26, 2009, 08:29 »
:( Morning All, can anyone out there help please?!?  Let our girlies out this morning, but our rhode Rock (Dixie) seems VERY out of sorts - she appears to have laid a large soft shell egg - has a small white mark just below her vent & her tail is down & she's very quiet & not moving around much at all.  The worrying thing is, had to top up their feed first thing & normally I would be practically falling over her (& the others) as she's first to follow when there's food around but not this morning - she's just standing around looking very sorry for herself, head down onto her chest - and this is the chook whose normally 'head girl'.  She doesn't appear to be 'sweating' around her beak & her wattles & comb are still bright red.

It can really take it out of the hens if they lay a softie LW :(

Keep a close eye on her see if she'll have some treats :)

In the past it's taken one of mine 1/2 a day to get over a softie displaying similar symptoms :)

Sarah :)

Well - its nearly 2 hours since the girls were let out & Dixie was showing signs of being 'out of sorts' but looks like Sarah was right - OH is outside giving her some treats and she's run up to him and is eating from his hand - YAY - Way to go girl! (However, will keep eye on her for a bit longer)   :D

Hopefully it'll just be a one off LW but as I said it really does knock them for 6  :(

Glad she's perked up :D
