My shed needs a spring (?) clean.  :(  Not had time  Perhaps in the summer hols.

It has had a recoat of sweetpeas round the outside plus the end is fitted out for trailing butternut squash... if we get enough summer for butternut to start trailing.  ???

The old shed had a fridge... small but reliable. It was a gas fridge from the late 1950s. My father used it to store chemicals in as it was no longer connected (pre-natural gas).  ::) Heaven knows what they all were as the packets had faded and the labels fallen off when I opened it up a couple of years ago.

The fridge is still on the plot and holds a bag of blood fish & bone meal as well as lime. Not sure I'd want to put drinks in it though.

Sounds like it will be a real voyage of discovery in that shed Learner

The rats thought so - that's why it had to go. The wood was good despite its age but the rat family/ies occupying the space underneath had moved in through the floor... nibbling their way up slowly through it all over the place.  :tongue2:

When, eventually, the shed was down and I dug the ground underneath, I discovered two large oil drums that had been used as their home-base!! Delightful, eh?

My father tells me that the blacksmith, who had the plot before him, had burried them there as they had been water-butts until they rusted through.

The mess is cleared, the useful wood stored or already in use, the new shed can be glimpsed through the timbers of the old one - [ See photo and look for Green shed - left far corner background] - It is smaller and on a solid slab-base to keep the "visitors" out!

The nice thing about it was that my dad was quite happy for me to replace the shed despite the fact that it was his and I had helped him put it up around 45 years ago!!

(Not so sentimental as me I guess....   ::) )

The shed was in pretty good condition considering its age (apart from its additional "doors" in the floor ) - Weight of roofing felt and 1987 hurricane had given it a leaning character of its own but only a small one..... Took me many trips to the tip with my bike trailer to dispose of the multi-layered felt roof!

I'm sure it did take a long time to dispose of all that

Like the idea of a slab floor. .. sound slike a wise precaution.

My Dad has surprised me too in not being quite so sentimental about changing things as I thought he might be ---  even bought a new cooker recently. I did think he would hang on to the old one as him and Mum had had it for years, but no!!
