can chickens be effected by mixy?
« on: September 17, 2009, 13:11 »
My only laying hen , 18 months old, went off her food a bit a week ago. She just sits aroung with her eyes closed and goes to bed early, not eating much but is still strong enough to perch. Now my cock has weepy eyes and nostrils, still crowing though. I noticed a mixy rabbit in the garden a few days ago could this have infected the chickens. My young ones seem to be ok

According to a couple of my vets, no.  It is specific to rabbits.  Any rabbit, hare, bird with a death wish that dares to enter the property, is promptly caught and eaten, and a couple of the rabbits have had myxy, which is why I enquired about it.
Horrid thing to have introduced.

Hi peverill. I would get one or other to the vets fairly pronto for some anti-biotics.
