New Allotment
« on: September 07, 2009, 19:00 »
Hello, after nearly two years on the waiting list i have finally got an allotment. Yippee!  :D
It is however largely grown over with grass  so i would appreciate any advice on the best and quickest ways of proceeding.

Good evening Bean and welcome to the site. I would suggest strimming the grass down, then turning the soil over manually so you can as much of the roots out as possible. :D

Welcome to the site and love the user name  :D

I'll move this post over the Grow Your Own as it's got a growing question in it (sort of  ;) )

DavidT's advice is good, here's a link on clearing a plot

Up to you how organic you want to be - if you plan on using weedkiller, do it on a calm day when it's going to be dry for at least 6 hours, and don't leave it too late in the season or the plant won't be growing sufficiently to enable the chemical to work properly.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
