I tend to use old CD's strung up with some wire / nylon line. Seems to work.

Other "allotmenteers" use milk bottle tops threaded onto some string / line.  :D

I've tied plastic bags all around my garden in the hope that the noise and movement will put them off, it seems to be working OK so far.

I just protect my baby plants from ...

... the pidgeons, but later in the season I don't do anything to keep the birds away.

They only really seem to damage my sprout tops and I can live with that.

I send Worzel out to flap his arms about.  He complains a lot, but I just tell him the crowman will catch him

I cut my carrier bags into strips and tie them onto 6ft canes. they flap about in the wind, but it didn't deter some determined pigeons last year!!! who wrecked my purple broc

Everytime we go to a supermarket we grab handfuls of the free internet  cd's. Also got a few childrens stick windmills planted amongst the strawberries. Seems to keep the birds at bay.

I've got a kite that looks like a buzzard (naturally I call him Leighton) flying from a line over the garden.  The pigeons don't land anymore though smaller birds don't seem to worry.
Cheese makes everything better.
