Call Ducks
« on: July 24, 2009, 15:50 »
The children have just been given two white call ducks , about a year old, one of them has what looks like green algae on it's beak and a little on it's head, it dosent seem to wipe off, also it's eye's seem slightly sunken, but other than that it seems fine, any ideas ? is it just a dirty duck or is there a problem. Thanks.

Green discolouration on the bill can be normal but it is unusual on their feathers as they are usually very clean animals if they have access to fresh water. It does sound like it may not have been kept in the best conditions before it reached you.
Do they have access to fresh water now to bath and keep their eye's and nostrils clear?
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Thanks Kate,  that's what I was thinking, they have lots of water now and seem happy , just have to see how they go on.
