sorry, no, I don't know why I answered yes on that; the spur is usually above the back "toenail" and grows out of the back of the leg, on the last pic it looks like there's the beginnings of a spur, but I just looked back at the others and now i'm not so sure; oh, I give up; it's been a long day

Sorry chelle, me too.  Aunty is right, that's the back toe, thought it was a spur, but I've not had a good day either.

I still think it looks like a cockerel, but I hope I'm wrong.

You know hens have spurs too!! - really - pick up a hen you know for sure is a hen and you will see usually underdeveloped little bumps like the ones in the picture. That said some hens develop quite serious spurs - I had a fabulous little Appenzeller Spitzhauben once who had rather long and sharp spurs - she also laid plenty of tasty white eggs.

Looking at the picture (forgetting the spurs) I would say cockerel because of the wattles, thick sturdy legs and also the slightly bending tail feathers - often when cockerels are young they have those sort of tail feathers before growing a decent batch. But the spurs to me look like girl spurs - and here is where I need the help of someone who knows how quickly a young cockerel's spurs develop!

Of course you can just sit and wait - it will all become clear one way or the other soon enough - and don't forget to let us know when you do find out!

I think that will probably be best, cos we could debate it all night; my final theory is it's either a cockerel or a hen (i still think a cockerel though)
