hi
i have a glut of Fench beans just now, do i really need to blanch them before freezing, or can i just throw them in the freezer

We don't blanch ours, just chuck them in a bag and freeze.
never had a problem that way.

If you are going to use them up quickly, say within the month they may be ok.  If you intend keeping then longer than that I think you might just as well chuck them away now.  Why not blanch half to keep and use the rest up quickly which is a bit hard to do as they just keep acoming.   :lol:

Why chuck them away if not blanched?

Like i said, we dont blanch anything. Still eating some of last years unblanched beans and carrots from the freezer.

I blanch them as they really don't keep well more than a month or so otherwise.

Must say they're not as nice as fresh ones, but I hate throwing anything away unless it's inedible, so into the (second  ::) ) freezer they go  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
