sweetcorn protection
« on: July 14, 2009, 19:34 »
Everyone on our plots says all their sweetcorn gets eaten by mice. I'm trying to protect mine with  plastic milk bottles split and tied round. Has anyone any other ideas for keeping the mice at bay?  They're so nearly ready.......
Thanks
Hil

I've never had that problem so can't help, but just checking that the bottles aren't preventing the cobs from being pollinated?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

The tassels have gone brown and the cobs inside are over an inch thick. I ate one today, it was ok but needed a couple more days perhaps. Does that mean they have pollinated?

If the individual kernels have developed, yes they have been pollinated
