Courgette polination
« on: July 01, 2009, 22:17 »
My courgettes are flowering but Ive noticed they're at the back of the bed, quite close and so under a lot of foliage.  At the moment, I can hardly see the flowers around the base (though they are there!).  Do I need to worry or will the insect life still find them?

They should do. My courgettes are quite big with a lot of foliage but I still managed to have on for dinner & more to come. I didn't do anything to help the polination so you should be ok. Polinating insects are quite clever at finding flowers I guess.

Although I am no expert but I'm sure some will come along soon to answer your question.

Don't worry about it - you will soon be asking what to do with all your courgettes. Check regularly as they turn into marrows quickly and it is easy to miss them under the foliage.  :D

I've got several really big courgette's they keep producing fruit but it starts to rot when it get's to about 2" - 3" long, im guessing im not leaving them on the plant to long so is it a pollenation problem or the weather perhaps?!  They are pretty tucked away but seem to be thriving is it possible the insects just arn't finding them with flowers from other plants being easier to find?
