Cauliflower - Clapton
« on: June 30, 2009, 11:30 »
Some of you may remember that last year I did a seed share of Cauliflower - Clapton with others on this site.

I was interested in these as it's been absolutely hopeless growing summer cauli's on our ground due to club root. These seed are relatively expensive, but are supposed to be club root resistant.

I have just cut the first one....

For our site, this is massive & I'm quite chuffed!

There's another half dozen nearly ready to cut & then a futher 30 odd plants! Cauliflower cheese anyone?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

mmmmmm If you're offering - I'll have a plate full. Perhaps a nice slice of gammon and some fresh spuds to round it off...  drool. Still no sign of heads on mine this year  :(

Nice cauli DD, we have club root all over ours but have a method of growing without the clubroot resistent varities.

Wow Dave !  I hope mine turn out as good as that.  Mine must have been later sown than yours.

I know my purple caulis have hit the forum but here is a typical All Year Round cauli taken tonight with little legs there for some scale. We have loads, no, clubroot is rife on our plots but with a little thought we all grow these, plus we have sandy soil which again makes it harder to grow them but grow them we do....

A little later than DD's, think they were transplanted in March, I just chuck them in when they are ready, cant be doing with all the recording bit.

They are all awesome. I do hope my little All Year Rounds that were planted out early June have time to do as well

Top growing chaps!

I've not grown caulis before, but I've just sown some Walcheren Winter Pilgrim and some Purple Cape to over-winter and some F1 Sunset and F1 Grafitti for an earlier crop, and I shall be more than happy if I get anywhere close to these!  :)

I do Winter Pilgrim as well. They usually do well for me as they grow over winter when the club root's not active.

My Clapton have been grown under debris nettings and I think that bit of shade has also helped.
