Climbing French Beans - Ourgrown their supports!
« on: June 30, 2009, 08:14 »
I build 6ft supports for my climbing french beans and select ones have overshot that by a foot or so.
What's the best thing to do?
Increase the support height or snip the top off?
Might mean snipping 12-18" of plant!!
Good beer, good BBQ and good friends.

Snip the top off, same as for runners.

I just let mine drop back down.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Hi, if you pinch the tops out you get alot of lovely side shoots which make bushy plants.

Wow - conflicting advice!!
I'm a torn man!
Shall I let them grow with flow or snip them?

By the time they get to the top, they should already have thrown out a lot of side shoots. I just couldn't be bothered to go round all mine giving them a hair cut.

You could try half & half & report back!
