Calling Poorstudent a tip - grapevines
« on: June 24, 2009, 20:05 »
Hi PS, just a tip i learnt the hard way, when i pinched out the laterals on my replacement rods i rubbed the lot out. On my third year when i bent my rods down i found i had a lot of dead buds. I then found out that you had to pinch them out to one leaf to feed that bud, so if you didn't know that it might save you the same mistake.

Hi, sorry, both me and PS are growing vinyards on our lottie and are both at about the same stage ( i think i'm about a year in front ) it refers to the next years fruiting rods which you keep free of all growth for next years fruiting rods, it might save him making the same mistake as me.

Hi, i have three rows of six vines ( should give twenty bottles a year in full production ) the variety is Seyval Blanc an organic vine which is suposed to be mildew free so no spraying, also easy to grow.

Hi, ever heard of quality not quantity, but don't worry i'm still getting my quota in with all the soft fruit i grow, not to mention the six gallons of elder flower thats bubling away in the winery.
PS just podded a load of broad beans so a quick gallon of broad bean wine was forthcoming.
