I have a broughton ark and have lined it with news paper as the chickens sleep on their purch. It works well except that the wood is getting a little damp any ideas what i can do? I really don't want to have anything that drops through the ramp as they come up and down because I move them daily and it will leave a mess all over the lawn.

Use some lino or plastic and then put the paper on top. You need to be able to keep it clean and watch out for the mites as well as thoroughly clean out each week. I take the newspaper from under the perch out every morning, and have some plastic underneath it to keep the floor of the shed dry.

Hi Snowy.

I'm just wondering why the floor is getting damp. Do you poo-pick every day ?

I wouldn't expect more than a little bit of moisture which newspaper ought to cope with.

Thanks for your help I do change paper every other day but still it seems to get a bit damp but the lino is a great idea I shall sort it this week-end - many thanks
