is there a "best" time of day to plant?

I think that mornings are a good time to plant the soil is usually damper than later in the day. Its always best to water newly planted stuff though,as it helps the roots settle into their new home.

... the best time to plant was when I get the chance ...  

As I work full time and have a teenage son, my allotment has to fit round other stuff, so I plant at the weekends.  I prefer not to plant in the pouring rain, cos I hate getting soaked, and I prefer not to transplant seedlings in the searing heat, cos they suffer too much ... but other than that anything goes!

If you mean transplant then yes, avoid the heat of the day.  I prefer to transplant on a rainy day or, in the early evening.

For planting seeds / sets / tubers, it makes no difference unless you are a believer in lunar cycles.

Has anyone tried planting by lunar cycle methods ? I tend to go by the weather and soil conditions, but will try anything if its proven to work.
