Repotting tomatoes
« on: June 07, 2009, 11:40 »
I've got some Moneymakers, Marmande and Gardener's Delight. I started them from seed quite late and now they're up to 8 inches high.

My problem is that their stems are quite thin so I want to get them off their windowsill home and outside into a growhouse so that they get more sunshine hours. The windowsill they're on only really gets the sun in the late afternoon and I think this is why they've turned out a little spindly. I have an east/west facing house.

My question is can I repot them fairly deeply, ie up to the height of the original seed leaves? Will the covered stem put out more roots? Is this a good thing to do for spindly plants?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Yes you can plant them deep and the stem will grow roots so don't worry.
Cheese makes everything better.
