it does sound very much like mycoplasma, if so you will need antibiotics from a vet, my Pumpkin had it but made a full recovery.

vet fees vary around the country, i'm lucky as we have a poultry vet who's at a large animal practice, Pumpkins cost for examination and treatment for mycoplasma was £11.

This hidden costs of keeping animals - chickens can cost as much in vet bills as a cat or dog (mine have)

when we recently took our poorly chicken to the local poultry friendly vet I'd came to £15 for a course of antibiotics, electrolyte powder and the consultation. I though that was very fair compared to how much we'd have been charged for our dog.

for consultation and course of anti-biotics ( eye drops) cost 27 pounds.  ???
for the second course of ant-biotics ( baytril )  was 14 pounds ( it didn't clear the first try.)  ::)

I'm in the prosses of finding a hen friendly vet ;) suggestions anyone?   :)

Have you had a look on the poultry friendly vets pages on the poultry information section? There may be one near you, but that doesn't mean that they will be any cheaper just that they have an understanding about chickens. Mine cost me £30 for an injection, a bottle of metacam (enough to treat several hens) and a large tub of aureomycin to treat around 50 hens for 10 days at least (there is no need to throw the eggs away with this unlike baytril - although I did. Mine recoved fine and is laying well so I think it was money well spent.
Staffies are softer than you think.
