a lot of chemicals have been removed from sale and what is recommended in the good doctors books are now out of date (or you are risking serious repurcussions if you do ::))

I have heard that spraying powdery mildew with milk or watered down milk helps, which could be true seeing as it spawns in very dry conditions, so perhaps keeping them moist would help??

someone who actually knows what they are talking about is bound to be along soon ::)

I could be wrong but that looks more like a deficiency of some type rather than mildew?

any experts around?

This appears to be just the pattern on some varieties of courgette...i'm sure there is nothing wrong with them. I have 2 types side by side and 1 type has it and the other not, same as last year :D

Agree with Momofstig. It is a pattern seen on some varieties of courgette.

If you do see powdery milldew on courgettes a spray containing just sulphur will stop it spreading. I think this is acceptable to organic growers.

I've had a closer look at mine & this seems to be just a pattern of the  leaf.
  Thanks for the advice
 Cheers

I also got exactly the same symptoms on the leaves of my courgettes (variety 'Defender F1'). The cause of these silvered, angular patches on the leaves which are more or less defined by the veins is non-parasitic; in other words this abnormality is not caused by a fungus, bacterium, virus, insect or other pest. This is a 'physiological blotch' and is caused when parts of the outside layer of the leaf (epidermis) are detached, letting layers of air to enter the area between the outside (epidermis) and inside (parenchyma) of the leaf, resulting in this silvery appearance. It is only found in certain varieties of courgettes.
