Will a trailing pumpkin climb?
« on: May 26, 2009, 13:08 »
Maybe a daft question, but you got to ask!

I have several Mars F1 seedlings, i believe it's a trailing pumpkin, ideal for halloween pumpkins.

I have also just completed a day learning to weave willow, and came home with a rather wonderful 6ft obelisk.

Can i train my Mars F1 up  my obelisk?
Liv.

No reason why not, but you do present youself with another problem if you think about it!!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

The weight of the pumpkins!!

You'll have to work out how to support each individual fruit.

Read the posts about how to support a melon, but why not grow beans up your obelisK?

Keep the plot cultivated, that's the best way to ensure its future.

Because i've already nagged my OH into constructing a munty frame, which i'm very pleased  with. Beans went in yesterday.

I could get a smaller variety that is meant to trail, and let the big one scramble through the sweetcorn.

Oh. OK, so yes, grow your pumpkins like the 3 sisters through the sweetcorn, everyone benefits because pumpkins and corn both like lots of water!
