Help identifying a bug?!
« on: May 24, 2009, 12:41 »
Hello,

My husband was cleaning out the hen house (we have an eglu) yesterday and came across a strange, I think pupating, grub.  Apparently it was a "deep red, with a black stripe around its back of about a centimetre in size."  There were four of five of them.  At the same time he also found some white, very small maggots.

We clean the house weekly and it is located on a permanent site with wood chip in the run section.  The chickens appear healthy and were not bothered by these creatures.  They are let out to roam daily and are fed an organic layers pellet mix.

Can someone help identify these bugs and let me know if they are a cause for concern?  Where would this bug have come from?

Thanks.
