Hello
I think it depends on the breed and the hen - but my light sussex bantams go broody about every 4 - 6 weeks.  One of them first went broody in Jan  ::).  It does seem to last all summer and even into autumn. But bantams are a bit more prone to broodiness.
If you dont want them to stay broody I find the earlier you notice it, and take avoiding action the sooner they comeback into lay.
Hope this helps

I've got 3 chucks, White Leghorn, French Maran, and a Silver sussex. its the Silver Sussex thats gone broody, and she has been for about three weeks now! I lift her a couple of times a day, she has a wash and brushup has  something to eat and drink, then goes straight back to the nest.  I just figure she'll get over it left to her own devices.

When you say 'avoiding action' what things do you mean? One of my hens has just gone broody...not sure how long it's expected to last? or what to do about it? Or is it ok to just let them be broody??

remove her in the day time.. in to her own box or small nest,  .keep the main nest  door closed it all helps to get them out of being broody.i remove my broody first thing after she has had a drink and some layers to eat .she has her own coop .untill the others have layed..then i close the main nest door . and let her out for the rest of the day .. :ohmy:the others dont like her around so she go back in to her own nest ,on her own for the rest of the day.. :)
