Neighbours got the beans out
« on: April 01, 2007, 16:55 »
The next door plot owners have planted out there runner beans today. Said the plants were going mad inside and needed to go out. I haven't even sown the seed yet, wasn't going to until may.

They are planting everything from grapes to apricots, will all these grow?

And you're right.

One frost - they're a gonner.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I learnt that lesson last year. My soil temp is 8degC at the moment. I don't think runners would do well in that.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I had a bit of a moment of madness in that department today     After a whole weekend of family commitments, I went to close up the greenhouse this evening, and my five broad bean seedlings got transplanted.  I only planted them under glass because the nipper wanted to sow some seeds, so we set them in newspaper pots last month in a tray in the GH.  So I put them on the step to begin hardening off this morning, and then had a complete red (green?) mist tonight, and planted them in my freshly raked bean bed         Not sure what came over me!

So they've been put to bed under bell cloches tonight.  Fingers crossed!

My runners and peas definitely won't be going out yet.  The few peas and broad beans that I sowed in the greenhouse early to see how they do, are doing well, so I'm going to put them in the plytunnel to see how they go, but the next lot will be ging outside in May

Next time mix them with your carrot seed.

a) it helps space the carrot
b) the flowwers are blue and it confuses the carrot fly
c) you could also add in spring onions ... they also hate the smell of onions
:D
