Old boy down our plot always lends out his rotavator if you ask but it's not running right at the mo.
It starts ok but after a couple of min's it dies and then won't run.
Any ideas ? as I kind of volunteered to find out.
Has new petrol, it's 4 stroke B&S, rated 6hp I think.

No idea how old it is gwiz I'll find out and report back.
And yes I think it was run dry Muntjac.

if it starts easy enough, and runs ok for a couple of mins, then cuts out, i would go for an electrical problem rather than carb. however if it smokes like old riley from start up, it will mean another problem which isnt cheap to fix.
if it dont smoke too much, and its an older engine (15 yrs or so) i would expect the points/ condensor set to be on its way out, or at worst it could be the coil packing up when the engine gets hot (unusual, but it does happen) the points are located under the flywheel, set the new points at 18 thou. does the engine recoil start housing say MAGNETRON?, if so it hasn't got any points and we need to look at another problem that it could be.
